Athlete perspective on Anti-Doping, Mari Holden
The following presentation was made at the Geneforum/PSU event entitled, "Super Athletes: A Public Dialogue About Genetic Enhancement and Sports," February 11, 2005 in Portland, Oregon.
Speaker Biography
Mari Holden is a silver medalist in the 2000 Olympic time trial and the first U.S. Olympic road cyclist since 1984 to win an Olympic medal in road cycling. Ms. Holden's career highlights include:
- 1998 Redlands Bicycle Classic, Overall - 1st Place
- 1999 USCF National Champion - Road Race
- Five-Time USCF National Time Trial Champion (1995-2000)
- 2000 World Time Trial Champion
- 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist - Time Trial
- 2001 World Time Trial Championships - 6th Place
In 1990, at the age of 18, she turned to triathlon and by 1991 was named Junior Triathlete of the Year. In 1992, she moved to Colorado to train with the U.S. National Cycling Team. Soon after she decided to focus soley on bike racing and one year later placed 30th in the Tour de France Feminin.
Mari Holden majored in philosophy at Colorado University and now lives in Colorado Springs.
